Long Beach Authorities Find More than 100 Cats in Abandoned House
Half are kittens. One was dead. Most will eventually be available for adoption.
The Long Beach Animal Care Services agency is trying to nurse several dozen cats removed from a vacant house on Sunday. authorities said.
A reported 108 cats -- about half of which were kittens -- were recovered from the home in the 3700 block of Marna Avenue.
One of the cats was dead and dozens showed signs of advanced illness.

The animals were taken to the Long Beach Animal Shelter where they are being evaluated medically. At the shelter, a second cat died and more had to be humanely euthanized, agency Manager Ted Stevens said.
Most of the cats eventually will be available for adoption, shelter officials said.
