A film showcasing the Garcia family, who recycles so they can earn money to pay for their children's education, will be featured at La Plaza de Culturas y Artes.

A short film about immigrant parents who collected recyclables to pay for their children’s education will be featured at 3 p.m. on Jan. 12 at La Plaza de Culturas y Artes.

Titled “Parents of the Year,” the film focuses on Yolanda and Rogelio Garcia, Mexican immigrants living in the Los Angeles area.

The family has been in the spotlight in the past as writers and documentarians, along with the public, have marveled at the couple who has said in the past they spend 365 days of the year pulling bottles and cans from trash cans.
