Summer Movie Nights Abound in and Around Long Beach

By Samantha Katzman

With summer in full swing, finding fun – and wallet friendly – activities for the whole family can be a challenge. Luckily for Long Beach residents, outdoor movie nights are proving to be enjoyable summer activity for all ages. Beaches and parks all around the community are playing family friendly movies every weekend as a way to bring families while enjoying the cool summer evenings.

Moonlight Movies on the Beach offers movie nights at Alfredo Beach Club and Mom’s beach Club between May 18 and August 31 this summer. Movies and parking are free, while dinner, snacks and popcorn are available for purchase.

Movies in the Park, a program sponsored by Signal Hill Petroleum and Partners of Parks, hosts family movie nights every weekend at different parks around the community.

Sixth District Free Summer Activities offers exactly that – free summer activities in the sixth district of Long Beach. Spearheaded by Councilman Dee Andrews, his goal was to provide a way to bring families together despite economic troubles. “Strong families means strong communities,” he said upon the announcement of the program.

But movies aren’t the only options for locals looking for some outdoor summer fun. Thursday Night Concert Nights, Rancho Cerritos Concert Nights, and SAM (Summer and Music) at the Pike, are some musical options for those looking for more activities in the upcoming months.
