Long Beach Residents Advised to Avoid Beaches

The acting health officer of Long Beach says rain and runoff may have created unhealthy conditions at city beaches and bays.

Recreational swimming areas should be avoided for three days following this week's rainstorm, residents were advised Wednesday by Dr. Mauro Tomo, Long Beach's acting health officer.

Tomo issued a rain advisory for Long Beach recreational beaches and bays following the rain that fell in the last 24 hours.

Runoff from storm drains and rivers that reach city beaches may have created unhealthy conditions. Under California law, local public health agencies are required to notify swimmers when water conditions could impact their health.
