Over 1,000 Long Beach Residents Walk Saturday for MS

More than 1,000 walkers were expected to have participated in Walk MS, sponsored by Wells Fargo, at the Belmont Pool on Saturday, April 13.

Walk MS to benefit the Southern California & Nevada Chapter of the National MS Society

More than 1,000 walkers are expected to be participating in Walk MS, sponsored by Wells Fargo, and you will see them today along the coast, wearing bright orange t-shirts.

Water stations and other course helpers could be seen all along Bluff Park and in the Belmont Shore beach parking lots Saturday. The goal is to raise $2.75 million at our 13 Southern California & Nevada Walk sites this spring. Funds raised will support direct services for the more than 19,000 Southern and Central Californians and Nevadans with MS and their families, as well as cutting-edge research worldwide to find better treatments and ultimately a cure for this chronic, unpredictable disease.

2.1 million people worldwide live with MS, an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system. Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatment are moving us closer to a world free of MS.

Multiple sclerosis destroys connections. This unpredictable disease disconnects the mind and the body and disconnects people from one another. So it’s only fitting that our connections would be its greatest enemy. The National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s Walk MS events connect people living with MS, people who care about someone with MS, every family affected by it, and everyone who wants to make a difference. Walk MS is a day for our local communities to come together to show the power of connections. At Walk MS, our connections become more powerful than the connections MS destroys.
