UPDATED: Big Rig Runs into Overpass, Shuts Down Transition from 91 to 710

The transition lanes reopened about 9:50 a.m.

The transition road from the northbound Long Beach (710) Freeway to the eastbound Artesia (91) Freeway was closed for about six hours today after a truck ran into an overpass, authorities said.

A big rig laden with metal spools weighing 50,000-80,000 pounds struck the underside of the overpass about 3:45 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash required an inspection of the damaged structure, as well as the transfer of the big rig's load. The transition road was reopened about 9:50 a.m., the CHP reported. No one was hurt.
