Long Beach Man Gets 51 Years for Strangling Girlfriend with Belt, Electrical Cord

A man convicted of strangling his girlfriend in Long Beach almost two years ago was sentenced today to 51 years to life in state prison.

Superior Court Judge Arthur Jean imposed the term on Jeffery Dixon, 51, who was found guilty March 27 of second-degree murder for the April 30, 2012, killing of Monique Diane Burton.

Burton was strangled with a belt and an electrical cord, according to Deputy District Attorney Lee Ashley Cernok.

The 51-year-old woman's body was later found in his apartment.

Dixon was arrested on May 2, 2012, by Long Beach police. He has remained jailed since then.
