Man Pleads Not Guilty in Stabbing Death of His Cousin

Ahkeem Johnson, 27, died Tuesday from multiple stab wounds suffered in his Long Beach apartment Tuesday.

A Lake Elsinore man pleaded not guilty today to a murder charge stemming from his cousin's stabbing death at an apartment building in Long Beach.

Bryant Keith Underwood, 29, is charged in the killing of Ahkeem Johnson, 27, who died Tuesday from multiple stab wounds suffered in his apartment unit in the 2000 block of Locust Avenue.

Underwood was arrested near the scene and booked on suspicion of murder, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Police were sent to the scene based on 911 calls about strange noises coming from Johnson's apartment, according to prosecutors.

Underwood remains jailed on just over $1 million bail.

He is due back in court in Long Beach April 17.

If convicted as charged, he faces up to life in state prison, according to the District Attorney's office.
