Man Suspected of Fatally Abusing Cats Faces Animal Cruelty Charges

Steven Ullery claims two dead cats he brought to the Long Beach animal shelter were "defective."

A 27-year-old man suspected of fatally abusing two cats whose remains he brought to a Long Beach animal shelter, claiming the animals were "defective," was facing possible animal cruelty charges Friday, according to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals/Los Angeles.

Steven Ullery was arrested Thursday and released Friday after posting $60,000 bail, according to sheriff's online booking records.

Officers at the SPCA/LA began an investigation after Ullery allegedly brought the two dead cats, who were named Sylvester and Oliver, to the P.D. Pitchford Companion Animal Village and Education Center in Long Beach and claimed they were "defective," said Ana Bustilloz of SPCA/LA.
