Updated: Long Beach Shooter in Custody; One Dead, One Injured

One person died following the shooting of two people on Clair Del Avenue late Monday night, Long Beach police said.

A man suspected of fatally shooting one person and wounding another in Long Beach was in custody this morning after giving himself up in Los Angeles, police said.

The shooting occurred in the 4800 block of Clair Del Avenue, just south of Del Amo Boulevard, around 9:50 p.m. Monday, said Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman Nancy Pratt. Investigators were at Country Woods Apartments at 4801 Clair Del Ave. Monday night, a news photographer reported from the scene.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene and another was taken to a hospital, Pratt said. The wounded victim's condition was not immediately available.

The suspect called Los Angeles police to turn himself in and was taken into custody around 10:45 p.m. in the area of North Broadway and Eastlake Avenue, said Sgt. Rick Colombia of the Los Angeles Police Department's Hollenbeck Division. His name was not immediately released.
