City Starts Construction on 'Fitness Zone' at 14th Street Park

The circuit will feature leg press, lower body and cross-country ski machines, along with equipment for abdominal exercises and a vertical press for legs and arms.

Work began today on a fitness zone at a Long Beach park, aimed at encouraging residents to embrace a healthy, active lifestyle.

The 14th Street Park Fitness Zone, between Locust Avenue and Palmer Court, will feature leg press, lower body and cross-country ski machines, along with equipment for abdominal exercises and a vertical press for legs and arms, according to city officials.

The park will also include a colored paved path for circuit training.

The $117,500 project is expected to wrap up in May and is designed to get Long Beach residents to be active, according to Mayor Bob Foster.

"It's a place where people can use the community assets we have," Foster said.

Vice Mayor Robert Garcia said the improvements to 14th Street Park and other areas nearby have made the neighborhood safer.

"It's a big investment in a neighborhood that really deserves and needs the investment," Garcia said.
