Books Wanted to Help Long Beach Children Read

Long Beach Councilman Dee Andrews is sponsoring a book drive to benefit students at Lincoln Elementary School.

Organizers have set a goal of collecting 500 children's books, new or gently used, for a book drive that aims to boost the reading abilities of children at Lincoln Elementary School in Long Beach.

The AOC7 (Anaheim, Orange, Cherry & 7th Street) book collection runs to April 30, according to an announcement from Councilman Dee Andrews.  

Donors can drop off the children's books at these locations and mention the AOC7 Book Drive:

• Neighborhood Resource Center
425 Atlantic Ave.
Atlantic and 4th Street
Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

• Lincoln Elementary School
1175 E. 11th St.
11th Street and Orange Avenue

• The Center in Long Beach
2017 4th St.
4th Street and Cherry Avenue

• National Guard Armory
2200 Redondo Ave.
Redondo Avenue and Stearns Street
Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

• Mark Twain Library
1401 E. Anaheim St.
Anaheim Street and Gundry Avenue
 
The books will be distributed free to children attending the AOC7 Literacy Fair on May 11, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at MacArthur Park, 1321 E. Anaheim St. There will be music, multicultural dances, literary bootjs and storytelling.
