Conway Wins It!

Days of practice, qualifying and tuning in the car and a few race changing collisions made the 40th Grand Prix of Long Beach one for the books.

Ryan Hunter-Reay may have captured the pole and lead for 51 of the 80 lap race, but that little twist of fate seemed to want to have someone else take home the checkered flag today. And fate certainly smiled upon Mike Conway brightly today.

After a major incident on turn four which took out not only Ryan Hunter-Reah, but also James Hinchcliffe and Takuma Sato as well. This left Will Power wide open to take the lead, and he did. There were also a few other yellow flags, but nothing like on turn four, and only involving one car.

Then another surprise, Scott Dixon pulled ahead and it seemed as though he had the win with Mike Conway chasing him all the way. On laps 75-77 each time he cleared the hairpin turn, he would pull ahead just a little bit more. Then on lap 78, Scott Dixon suddenly pulled into pit lane after his team calculated he would run out of fuel one half lap before the finish.

Mike Conway is no stranger to Victory Lane, and it seems he may be making  trip or two there again this year.
