The Redcoats Are Coming

The Committee of 300. Also known as the Redcoats or C-300, are the volunteers which act as ambassadors,  guides, locator of seats and finders of lost parents.

It’s the ORIGINAL Paddock Club at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, sponsored by the best all volunteer group in Long Beach! And, for the 40th straight year, the Committee of 300 of Long Beach Inc. - the famed “Redcoats” – will again be critical to the success of the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.

Since their inception, they continue to be instrumental in promoting, planning and staging the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. They also raise money for charities throughout the year in the ‘off-season’  by adopting a local charity. This year’s charity is the Long Beach Police Foundation.

One volunteer I spoke with, Ken Kern, has been a volunteer for over 20 years. He spoke of his love of Indy Car racing, most notably about one Indy 500 race he attended back in the 1980's.

"There were only only 8 laps to go, and the driver in second place was 7 seconds behind. Each lap, he closed in by one more second. Then on the final lap at turn 4, an unruly spectator threw a smoke bomb on the track and ruined one of the greatest finishes of all time."

Listening to people share stories of their love of Indy Racing is definitely a treat. To join the fun offered by Long Beach’s most dynamic volunteer organization call (562) 981-9200, or visit the C300web site at www.redcoat.com.

Better yet, just ask a “Redcoat!"
